The bank system in Crimson Desert provides a secure way to store your gold and earn passive income through interest. Banks are located in every major city and hub settlement, identifiable by the coin icon on your map. The system becomes available after completing the Chapter 3 trade tutorial, alongside the broader trade system unlock.
To use the bank, approach the bank teller NPC and interact to open the banking interface. From here you can deposit gold, withdraw gold, view your current interest earnings, access your strongbox, and perform bond-to-gold exchanges. All banking services are free to use with no transaction fees.
The bank serves three main purposes in the game economy:
- Gold storage - Keeps your gold safe and separate from your carry-on inventory
- Interest generation - Earns passive gold based on your total deposit
- Strongbox access - Provides secure item storage that cannot be looted
One important detail is that your bank account is shared across all bank NPCs in the world. Depositing gold at one bank makes it available for withdrawal at any other bank, so you do not need to return to a specific location to access your funds. This is particularly useful when traveling between distant regions for trade routes.
How the Bank System Works

One important detail is that your bank account is shared across all bank NPCs in the world. Interest Mechanics: The 40 Gold Cap
The interest system rewards players for keeping gold in the bank rather than carrying it. Interest is calculated based on your total deposited amount and is credited to your account on a daily cycle. However, there is a hard cap of 40 gold per cycle, regardless of how much you have deposited.
The interest calculation works as follows. The base interest rate is approximately 0.1% of your total deposit per day. This means you need a deposit of roughly 40,000 gold to hit the 40-gold cap. Any deposit beyond that amount does not increase your interest earnings.
| Deposit Amount | Daily Interest (0.1%) | Capped Interest |
|---|---|---|
| 5,000 gold | 5 gold | 5 gold |
| 20,000 gold | 20 gold | 20 gold |
| 40,000 gold | 40 gold | 40 gold (cap reached) |
| 100,000 gold | 100 gold | 40 gold (capped) |
Because of the cap, the interest system is best viewed as a small passive bonus rather than a primary income source. It encourages players to deposit excess gold rather than leaving it idle, but it is not a viable strategy for wealth generation on its own.
Interest is calculated daily based on real-time play. If you do not log in for a day, that day's interest is not earned. The cycle resets at the same time each day, and interest is credited automatically to your bank balance without any action required on your part.
The Strongbox Feature
The strongbox is a secure storage container accessible through the bank interface. Unlike your regular inventory and stash, items stored in the strongbox are completely immune to loss. They cannot be looted by other players in PvP, lost on death, or affected by any negative game mechanic.
The strongbox has limited slots, starting with 20 slots and expandable to 50 through upgrades purchased with gold at the bank. Each upgrade adds 5 slots and costs progressively more gold, starting at 500 gold for the first upgrade and scaling up to 5,000 gold for the final tier.
The strongbox is ideal for storing:
- Valuable trade goods - Keep high-value items like silk and jewelry safe while you travel
- Rare crafting materials - Store materials you are saving for endgame crafting
- Excess bonds - While bonds cannot be looted normally, storing the physical bond tokens in the strongbox keeps your inventory clean
- Unique equipment - Boss drops and quest rewards you want to preserve
To claim items from the strongbox, simply open the bank interface, navigate to the strongbox tab, and drag items between the strongbox and your inventory. There is no fee for depositing or withdrawing items, and the process is instant.
Bond to Gold Exchange
The bank is also where you can perform the bond-to-gold exchange. The exchange rate is fixed at 10 bonds = 10 gold, which is intentionally set low to encourage players to use bonds for purchasing trade goods rather than converting them directly.
To put this in perspective, spending 10 bonds on a high-value trade good like silk and selling it at a distant trade post will yield 180 to 220 gold, which is 18 to 22 times more profitable than the direct exchange. Even the cheapest regular trade goods yield at least 50% more gold per bond than the exchange rate.
Despite the unfavorable rate, there are a few situations where the direct exchange makes sense:
- Emergency repairs - If your equipment breaks mid-dungeon and you need gold immediately
- Consumable restocking - When you are far from a trade post but near a bank and need potions
- Excess bonds - If you have a large bond surplus and no immediate trade route planned
The exchange is performed instantly through the bank interface. Select the number of bonds you wish to convert, confirm the transaction, and the gold is added to your bank balance. There is no daily limit on exchanges, but given the poor rate, you should always exhaust trade good options first.
