Updated 2026-08-06 - 12 min read

Your First Boss Fight

The Bandit Chief is your introduction to boss fights in Crimson Desert. He is not the hardest boss in the game, but he will absolutely destroy you if you go in unprepared.

This guide covers everything: his attack patterns, how to dodge, when to attack, and exactly what gear and level you should have before challenging him.

Preparation

Recommended Level

Level 8-10 minimum. You can technically do it lower, but you will have very little room for error.

Gear Requirements

  • Weapon upgraded to at least level 3 (level 5 recommended)
  • Any armor set (even the starting one is fine)
  • 5+ HP Potions
  • 2-3 Stamina Potions (optional but helpful)

Skills to Have

  • Your main damage combo
  • Dodge roll (obviously)
  • At least one gap closer or ranged skill

The Arena

The Bandit Chief fight takes place in a circular arena at the Bandit Camp. The arena is pretty spacious, so use it. Do not get cornered.

There are no obstacles or environmental hazards to worry about in this fight. It is just you and him - a fair 1v1 duel.

Attack Patterns

The Bandit Chief has 5 main attacks. Learn these and the fight becomes trivial.

1. Three-Hit Combo

His most common attack. Three sword swings in a row. The tell is his sword raising overhead.

How to avoid: Dodge backwards or to the side after the third swing. Do not dodge too early - he tracks you slightly.

2. Charge Attack

He leans back, then charges forward with his sword extended. Very fast and does big damage.

How to avoid: Dodge sideways perpendicular to his charge direction. Do not dodge backwards - he will catch you.

3. Overhead Smash

He raises his sword high above his head and slams it down. Big damage but very slow.

How to avoid: Dodge to the side, then immediately attack. This is your biggest damage window.

4. Kick

A quick front kick that knocks you back. Low damage but can interrupt your combos.

How to avoid: Just step back. It has very short range.

5. Berserk Mode (Enrage)

Below 30% HP, he starts attacking faster and hits harder. Same moves, just less time to react.

Fight Strategy

Phase 1 (100% - 50% HP)

Take it slow. Let him attack first, dodge, then get in 2-3 hits of your own. Do not get greedy. The most common way new players die is by trying to get one more hit in.

Phase 2 (50% - 30% HP)

He starts using his charge attack more frequently. Keep your distance when you can, and use ranged skills if you have them.

Phase 3 (30% - 0% HP - Berserk)

He speeds up significantly. The pattern is the same but you have less time to react. Stay calm, do not panic, and keep doing what worked in the earlier phases.

Pro Tips

  • Use parry if you can. Perfect parrying his three-hit combo stuns him and gives you a huge damage window.
  • Do not heal in melee range. Always create some distance before drinking a potion.
  • Save your ultimate. Use your ultimate ability during berserk phase to burn him down fast.
  • Lock on. Turn on camera lock so you always face him. It makes dodging much easier.
  • Be patient. You have all the time in the world. Rushing is how you die.
