If your save file is corrupted or not loading, try these steps in order:

1. Verify game files: Right-click Crimson Desert in Steam → Properties → Installed Files → Verify integrity of game files.
2. Disable Steam Cloud sync: Properties → General → Uncheck "Keep games saves in the Steam Cloud."
3. Check save folder permissions: Navigate to %USERPROFILE%\Documents\CrimsonDesert\Saves and ensure the folder is not read-only.
4. Load backup save: The game auto-creates backups. Rename .bak files to remove the extension and try loading.
5. Disable antivirus: Some antivirus software blocks save writes. Add an exception for the game folder.

1. Enable Steam Input: Properties → Controller → Enable Steam Input. Select the "Gamepad with Joystick Trackpad" template.
2. Update controller drivers: For Xbox controllers, use the Xbox Accessories app. For DualSense, use DS4Windows or firmware update via PC.
3. Close conflicting software: Disable DS4Windows, X360CE, or other controller emulation software running simultaneously.

2. Set display mode to "Borderless Window" instead of "Fullscreen."
3. Update to the latest patch (1.1 or later).
4. If cutscenes still show black bars, this is intentional (cinematic 16:9 ratio).

Crimson Desert is Steam Deck Verified. For the best experience:

1. Proton version: Use Proton Experimental.
2. Graphics preset: Medium with FSR set to Quality.
3. FPS cap: 40 FPS for smoother battery life.
4. TDP limit: Set to 12W for balanced performance.
5. Refresh rate: Set to 40Hz to match FPS cap.
6. Expected battery: 2.5-3 hours on Medium settings.

1. Check time of day: Many NPCs only appear during certain hours (day/night cycle).
2. Check quest progress: NPCs may move or disappear after certain quest milestones.
3. Look nearby: NPCs often walk around their spawn area rather than standing in one spot.
4. Fast-travel away and back: This can reset NPC positions.
5. Reload save: If the NPC is truly missing, reload an earlier save.
