The Perfect Starter Build
New to Crimson Desert and not sure how to build your character? This beginner build is designed specifically for new players. It is easy to play, forgiving of mistakes, and effective at all levels of content.
You cannot go wrong with this build. It will carry you from the starting zone all the way through the mid-game with minimal adjustments.
Why This Build?
This build prioritizes three things that matter most for beginners:
- Survivability: Enough defense and HP that you can take a few hits
- Simplicity: Easy rotation that does not require 20-button combos
- Effectiveness: Still does good damage - you are not a punching bag
Many "beginner" builds just give you pure tank stats and then you do no damage. This build is balanced - you feel powerful while being hard to kill.
Stat Priority
Stack these stats in this order:
- Max HP: More health = more room for mistakes
- Defense: Reduce every hit you take
- Attack Power: Still need to kill things
- Crit Chance (up to 20%): Nice to have but not essential
Notice that crit damage and other fancy stats are at the bottom. As a beginner, you will benefit way more from being tanky than from trying to optimize damage.
Gear Setup
Weapon
Use whatever the best weapon you can find is. Prioritize weapons with HP or defense bonuses on them. Upgrade it to level 5 immediately.
Armor
Use the heaviest armor you can wear without being over-encumbered. Heavy armor gives way more defense than light armor.
Accessories
- Necklace: Max HP + Defense
- Earrings: Defense + HP
- Rings: Attack Power + HP
Basically, if it has HP or defense on it, wear it.
Skill Setup
Keep it simple. You do not need 20 skills on your hotbar. These are the only ones you need:
- 1 - Basic attack combo: Your bread and butter damage
- 2 - Strong attack: Big damage, slow animation
- 3 - Dodge roll: The most important skill in the game
- 4 - Block/Parry: Use this for attacks you cannot dodge
- 5 - Self-heal/buff: For when you need to recover
- 6 - Ultimate: Your big nuke for tough fights
That is it. Six skills. Master these six and you will be able to beat 90% of the game content.
How to Play This Build
The playstyle is simple and methodical:
- Wait for the enemy to attack
- Dodge or parry the attack
- Hit them 2-3 times
- Back off and wait for the next attack
- Repeat until dead
Do not try to attack nonstop. Wait for openings. The safest way to play is also the most effective way to play for beginners.
How to Progress the Build
As you get more comfortable with the game, you can start shifting toward more damage:
- Early game (1-20): Full tanky stats as described above
- Mid game (20-40): Start adding more attack power and crit chance
- Late game (40+): Respec to a more specialized build based on what you enjoy
By the time you reach endgame, you will know enough about the game and your class to decide what kind of build you want to pursue.
