Chapter 4 of Crimson Desert is the climactic final act of Kliff's journey through the war-torn lands of Pywel. Titled "The Last Stand of the Free Companies", this chapter spans approximately 10 to 15 hours and delivers some of the most challenging combat encounters, emotionally charged story moments, and consequential choices in the entire game. This walkthrough covers every main mission, all boss fights, secret endings, and post-game content unlocked after the credits roll.
Chapter 4 Overview: The Final Campaign
Chapter 4 begins immediately after the events of Chapter 3's finale at Driftmark Fortress. Kliff and the surviving Greymane mercenaries must rally the remaining Free Companies of Pywel for one last assault against the Disciples of the Abyss, the dark Axiom cult that has been orchestrating the corruption spreading across the continent. The chapter takes you through four major regions: the Ashenmoor Wastes, the Ironhold Citadel, the Abyssal Rift, and finally the Throne of Echoes.
Enemy levels in Chapter 4 range from 35 to 50, with the final bosses reaching Level 50. You should enter this chapter at minimum Level 32 with fully upgraded Tier 4 equipment. Anything less will make the late game boss fights extremely difficult, even on Normal difficulty.
This guide contains major story spoilers for Crimson Desert. If you have not yet reached Chapter 4, proceed at your own risk. We recommend completing Chapters 1 through 3 before reading further.
Mission 1: Ashenmoor Wastes — Gathering the Remnants
The chapter opens with "Gathering the Remnants", a mission that tasks Kliff with traveling to the Ashenmoor Wastes to negotiate alliances with three remaining Free Company factions. Unlike previous chapters where you fought alongside a single company, Chapter 4's finale requires you to unite multiple factions under a single banner.
Alliance Negotiations
| Faction | Leader | Requirement to Ally | Troops Gained |
|---|---|---|---|
| Ironveil Company | Commander Voss | Automatic if Ironveil alliance from Chapter 2-3 is active | 120 soldiers |
| Red Falcon Company | Captain Lyra | Complete "Falcon's Test" side quest or have Red Falcon reputation above 50 | 90 soldiers |
| Silver Fang Company | War Chief Drogath | Defeat Drogath in an honor duel (Level 36 boss) | 150 soldiers |
| Ghost Hand Company | The Faceless | Deliver 3 Abyss Artifacts to their hidden camp | 60 assassins |
Not all alliances are required for every ending. The "True Unity" ending requires all four factions allied, while other endings can be achieved with as few as two. However, having all four provides the best combat support during the siege missions and unlocks unique dialogue scenes.
Mission 2: Ironhold Citadel — The Siege of Ironhold
The second mission, "The Siege of Ironhold", is a massive multi-phase battle where you defend the Ironhold Citadel against waves of Disciples of the Abyss forces. This is the largest battle in the game and serves as the midpoint climax of Chapter 4.
Siege Wave Breakdown
| Wave | Enemies | Duration | Key Threat |
|---|---|---|---|
| Wave 1 | 40 Abyss Cultists + 2 Abyss Knights | 5 minutes | Abyss Knights flank the east wall |
| Wave 2 | 60 Abyss Raiders + Siege Golems | 8 minutes | Siege Golems target the main gate |
| Wave 3 | 30 Abyss Stalkers (stealth enemies) | 6 minutes | Stalkers infiltrate through tunnels |
| Wave 4 | Abyss Champion (Boss) + 80 cultists | 10 minutes | Abyss Champion must be killed to end wave |
| Wave 5 | 2 Abyss Terrors + 100 cultists | Until both Terrors die | Massive AoE damage from Terrors |
Between waves, you have approximately 90 seconds to reposition allies, repair defenses, and use healing items. Use this time wisely — the breaks get shorter with each successive wave.
Boss: Abyss Champion Vaelkor
The Wave 4 boss, Vaelkor, is a Level 40 elite Abyss Champion with devastating area attacks. He has three phases, each introducing new mechanics:
- Phase 1 (100-60% HP): Standard melee combos with occasional AoE shockwaves. Dodge sideways through the shockwaves — they have blind spots on the left and right.
- Phase 2 (60-30% HP): Summons Abyss Wraiths that circle the arena and fire projectiles. Clear the Wraiths quickly or they overwhelm your NPC allies.
- Phase 3 (30-0% HP): Enrages, gaining a damage aura that damages anything within melee range. Use ranged Axiom Force attacks and maintain distance.
Mission 3: The Abyssal Rift — Descent into Darkness
The third mission takes Kliff deep into the Abyssal Rift, the source of all dark Axiom corruption in Pywel. This is the game's longest dungeon, featuring complex puzzles, deadly traps, and three distinct boss encounters across five interconnected zones.
Zone Guide: Abyssal Rift
| Zone | Theme | Key Enemies | Notable Loot |
|---|---|---|---|
| Fractured Entry | Crumbling stone corridors | Abyss Cultists, Dark Hounds | rift-cloak (+15% dark resist) |
| Void Pools | Underground lakes of dark Axiom | Abyss Lurkers, Void Serpents | Voidwalker Boots (water walking) |
| The Crucible | Molten Axiom forges | Abyss Forgemasters, Fire Wraiths | Crucible Sword (Tier 5 legendary) |
| Throne Antechamber | Ornate corrupted temple | Abyss Paladins, Shadow Templars | Paladin's Grace accessory (+20% healing) |
| Throne of Echoes | Final boss arena | Final Boss encounters | Endgame rewards |
There is no checkpoint between Zone 4 and Zone 5. Once you enter the Throne Antechamber and defeat its boss, you proceed directly into the Throne of Echoes for the final boss sequence. Make sure you are fully healed, have all consumables stocked, and have saved in a separate slot before entering the antechamber.
Final Boss: The Abyssal Sovereign
The Abyssal Sovereign is the ultimate boss of Crimson Desert and one of the most challenging encounters in modern action RPGs. This four-phase fight tests every skill you have developed throughout the game.
The Abyssal Sovereign is Level 50 with 250,000 HP. This fight can take 15 to 25 minutes depending on your build and gear. There is no healing between phases — your HP carries over. Bring maximum consumables and choose your Axiom Force loadout carefully.
| Phase | HP Range | New Mechanics | Strategy |
|---|---|---|---|
| Phase 1 | 100-75% | Heavy melee combos, ground slams creating shockwaves | Learn his attack patterns; stay close and punish recovery frames |
| Phase 2 | 75-50% | Summons 2 Abyss Guardians, gains dark shield | Break shield with light attacks, then burst Guardians |
| Phase 3 | 50-25% | AoE dark vortex, teleport attacks, damage aura | Keep moving, use ranged Axiom Force, dodge vortexes |
| Phase 4 | 25-0% | All previous abilities + enrage + heal negation | Full burst damage; use ultimate Axiom Force abilities |
Ending Choices and Post-Game
After defeating the Abyssal Sovereign, Kliff faces one final choice that determines the game's ending. There are four possible endings, each with unique cutscenes and epilogue content:
| Ending | Choice | Requirements | Epilogue Content |
|---|---|---|---|
| Ending A: True Unity | "Together, we rebuild" | All 4 factions allied, Serath alive | Full epilogue with all characters, Pywel united under new council |
| Ending B: Lone Wolf | "I walk alone" | Any state | Kliff disappears into the desert, Greymane disbanded permanently |
| Ending C: The Sacrifice | "Take my Axiom" | Kliff Axiom level 8+ | Kliff sacrifices his Axiom power to seal the Rift forever |
| Ending D: The New Sovereign | "This power is mine" | Abyssal Sovereign defeated without ally help | Dark ending; Kliff becomes corrupted, hints at sequel |
Save before the final choice. Each ending unlocks different post-game content. Ending A unlocks the "Council of Pywel" free roam mode. Ending C unlocks a secret post-game dungeon. Ending D unlocks New Game+ with a unique corrupted Kliff moveset. We recommend playing all four endings to experience everything Crimson Desert has to offer.
